About the pattern

Ceres Bag is a small bag with a drawstring closure and a wavy strap. The bag is knitted from the bottom up in Shirley, while the casing, drawstring and strap are knitted in Ananas+.

Start with the base, worked flat in stockinette stitch on 10 mm needles. Increases and decreases shape the base. Pick up stitches along its edges and continue in the round. Increase to create the width of the bag, then decrease towards the opening.

At the top, switch to Ananas+ and 5 mm needles to knit the drawstring casing. Fold the edge inwards and sew it to the inside. Knit an i-cord drawstring and thread it through the casing so the bag can be tied with a bow.

The wavy strap is worked lengthwise and sewn to the inside of the bag below the casing.

Finally, sew a quilted lining to fit the bag and attach it below the casing. The lining gives the bag shape and keeps small items from slipping between the large stitches.

Size and measurements

One size. Approximate finished measurements: height 15 cm, width 23 cm.

Suggested needles

10 mm circular needles, 40/60 cm, for the bag; 5 mm circular needles, 40/60 cm, for the edge and strap. 5 mm double-pointed needles for the drawstring.

Gauge

7 stitches in stockinette stitch on 10 mm needles with Shirley = 10 cm. Use the needle size needed to obtain gauge.

16 stitches in stockinette stitch on 5 mm needles with Ananas+ = 10 cm. Use the needle size needed to obtain gauge.

Yarn

50 g Shirley by Lang Yarns for the bag: 45% superfine alpaca, 45% fine merino wool and 10% polyamide. Approximately 45 m per 50 g.

25 g Ananas+ by Lang Yarns for the casing, drawstring and strap: 70% lyocell and 30% pineapple fibres. Approximately 80 m per 50 g.

Notions

Sewing needle, tapestry needle and 4 stitch markers. Sewing thread, pins, scissors and paper for the lining template. Fabric and batting for a lining cut to fit the bag.
