ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Venus Skirt is named after the goddess Venus, who is best known as a symbol of love and beauty.
The skirt is knitted top down using 5 mm | US 8 needles in a simple zigzag pattern. It is worked with 2 strands of 8/4 cotton yarn – or something similar.
The entire piece is worked in the round. First, the ribbing edge along the waistband is worked, then short rows are worked to make the skirt higher in the back.
Following that, increases are worked at the center back. The increases will make the pattern look slightly different in the back compared to the front, but they help create a better fit and create an hourglass shape.
After that, the skirt is knitted in the round and is finished off with a ribbing edge and an Italian bind off. The waistband edge is folded over and attached on the wrong side after the elastic has been threaded through.
Cotton stretches when worn, so please do consider if you want the skirt to fit snugly or loosely. If you want a snug fit, go down a size. I have worked mine with a negative ease – meaning that it is the size smaller than my actual hip circumference.
When measuring yourself, the hip circumference is measured around the widest part of your bottom.
