ABOUT THE WORK

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: MEDIUM

Venus Skirt is named after the goddess Venus, who is, among other things, a symbol of love and beauty.

The skirt is knitted top down on needle 5 in a simple zig-zag pattern. Knit with 2 strands 8/4 cotton yarn - or similar.

The entire piece is knitted in the round. First, knit the rib along the waistband. Then knit in reverse rows to make the skirt higher at the back.

Subsequently, increases are made in the middle of the back. Increases in the back make the pattern look different at the back than at the front, and they help to give a nice fit and hourglass effect.

Then knit in the round and finish the skirt with a rib edge and Italian binding. The edge along the waistband is folded in and sewn to the wrong side after the elastic has been pulled through.

Cotton will stretch with use, so consider whether you want the skirt to fit snugly or loosely. If you want it to fit snugly, go down a size. I knitted mine with a negative ease - a size below my own hip measurement.

When measuring yourself, the hip measurement is the widest part of your butt.
