Materials:

50g of KOS + 50g of Brushed Alpaca, both from Sandnes Garn Or 100–150g of yarn scraps, depending on thickness and yardage.

6mm knitting needles – or the size needed to achieve the correct gauge.

Crochet hook, e.g., 5mm.

Measuring tape.

Gauge: 13 stitches on 6mm needles = 10cm (4").

Sizes:
Small, Medium, Large.

Finished measurements:
Length: 28 (30) 32 cm [11 (12) 12.5 in].
Width across the back of the hand: 9 (10) 11 cm [3.5 (4) 4.5 in].

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Beginner Mittens are a lovely, beginner-friendly project! They are worked in garter stitch, so you’ll only need to knit on both the right and wrong sides. The mittens have a ribbed cuff that can be folded down for extra length – practical for jackets with shorter sleeves.

The mittens are knitted flat, eliminating the need for double-pointed needles. The thumb is knitted separately and attached later. Finally, the mittens are crocheted together using single crochet stitches (or sewn together with a darning needle if you prefer).

Decreases: Knit 2 stitches together.

Increases: Make a yarn over. Knit the yarn over through the back loop on the next row.

Needles:

If your gauge has too many stitches per 10cm, switch to larger needles (e.g., 6.5mm or 7mm). If you have too few stitches per 10cm, use smaller needles (e.g., 5.5mm or 5mm).
